Hide the search calendar

hide_calendar="yes" removes the filter column from the search form and gives the results the full width.

What it hides

The whole left column, which contains:

  • the date picker;
  • Filter by type;
  • Filter by category.

The results occupy the full page width instead of two thirds.

The shortcode

[web_event_search_form hide_calendar="yes"]

Or the equivalent option on the page-builder element.

When to use it

A short programme. With eight upcoming events, filters are noise. A chronological list is easier to read than a list plus three controls.

A narrow column. In a sidebar, a footer or a two-column layout, the filter column has nowhere to go.

A focused page. A landing page whose job is these are the next events, not search our programme.

A page that already filters. If the page is about one strand of programming, the filters would only let visitors undo that.

Phone-first pages. The filter column stacks above the results on a small screen, pushing the events down.

When not to use it

  • A programme with dozens of events across several strands. Filters are the point.
  • A page in the main navigation as the events page. Visitors expect to be able to narrow.
  • Anything where visitors look for a specific date.

What still works

Hiding the column does not change the underlying list:

  • upcoming events only, in start-date order;
  • the page size from the Archive settings;
  • Load more events;
  • the loader image;
  • the empty-result message.

Only the filtering controls are gone.

An alternative to hiding

If the filters are useful but the date picker is not, remember that the attribute hides both — there is no option for one without the other.

For a filter-only page, the practical alternatives are to keep the full column, or to link category archives from the page instead of offering filters.

Two pages, two behaviors

A common and effective arrangement:

Page Configuration
Home [web_event_search_form hide_calendar="yes"] — the next few events, no controls
Events [web_event_search_form] — the full listing with filters

Both read from the same content and stay in step automatically.

Verify

  1. Add the attribute and reload signed out.
  2. Confirm the filter column is gone and the results are full width.
  3. Confirm the list still shows upcoming events in order.
  4. Confirm Load more events still works.
  5. Check the page on a phone, which is usually where this option earns its place.
