All-day events

The All day switch marks an event as running for the whole day rather than at a specific time.

Where it is

Events settings → Date & Time → All day, described as: Enable this option if the event lasts all day.

When to use it

  • A fair, a market or an open day that runs from opening to closing.
  • A conference day where the schedule is in the content, not in the header.
  • A multi-day festival, combined with a start and end date on different days.
  • An exhibition or an activation with no meaningful start time.

When not to use it

  • A talk, a concert or a class with a specific start time. The time is the most useful thing you can tell a visitor.
  • An event that runs across evenings — set real times instead.

What it does not change

Enabling All day does not remove the start and end datetimes. It is a property of the event, stored alongside them and available to the site's templates.

What visitors read still depends on two other choices:

  • the Date format for that event, which decides whether a time is printed at all;
  • Hide event date, which removes dates entirely.

So the practical combination for a true all-day event is: enable All day, and choose a Date format without a time — the site's default date format, for instance.

If you enable All day but leave a time-bearing format selected, the page still prints whatever time was entered, which is exactly the contradiction you were trying to avoid.

Multi-day, all-day events

Set:

  • start date = the first day;
  • end date = the last day;
  • All day enabled;
  • a date-only format.

The event then reads as a range of days, appears in lists until the final day has passed, and is found by the date picker on every day in between.

What to put in the content

An all-day event usually needs its schedule somewhere. Put it in the editor content — opening hours, the programme, when specific activities happen — rather than trying to express it in the date fields.

The introduction is a good place for the one line that matters: Doors open at 10:00, last entry 19:00.

Verify

  1. Enable All day and save.
  2. Open the event signed out.
  3. Confirm the dates read as days, not as times.
  4. Confirm the list item reads the same way.
  5. For a multi-day event, confirm it is still listed on its final day.
