Thank-you page behavior

The WooCommerce order confirmation page is where event enrollment happens, and where the buyer is told the result.

What the buyer sees

After a successful purchase of an event product, the confirmation page shows one of three messages:

Message Meaning
You have signed up for this event successfully. Enrolled and confirmed
This event has reached it's available space. You have been moved to the waiting list. Enrolled, but on the waiting list
This user already signed up for this event. They were already registered

The message appears alongside WooCommerce's normal order confirmation.

Why the page matters more than usual

Enrollment is triggered by this page being rendered. A buyer who never arrives here is not enrolled automatically, even though the order is paid.

Two practical consequences:

  • Do not customize the thank-you page in a way that prevents it rendering for event orders.
  • Do not rely on a redirect away from it after payment. If your payment provider or a plugin sends buyers straight to their account page, event enrollment does not happen.

Test the full path with the payment methods you actually use.

Make the page say something useful

WooCommerce's default confirmation page is about an order, not about an event. The buyer has just bought a place at something and wants to know the practical details.

Add, where your theme or WooCommerce allows:

  • the event's date, time and place;
  • what to bring or how to arrive;
  • what happens next, and whether anything further will be sent;
  • who to contact.

If the page cannot be customized per product, the order email is the second-best place — and the one most buyers keep.

The waiting-list case needs wording

A buyer told they have paid and are on the waiting list will act immediately. Make sure the page or the order email tells them:

  • what the waiting list means;
  • when they will hear;
  • what happens to their payment if no place is released.

Publishing that in your terms before selling is the difference between a routine situation and a dispute.

What POM Events does not add

  • No event-specific email.
  • No calendar attachment.
  • No ticket or pass.
  • No entry in the buyer's account area beyond the normal order.

If a buyer needs a reminder, WooCommerce's order emails and your own communications are the mechanism.

Reaching the page again

A buyer can usually return to their order confirmation from their account's order history. That is the practical instruction to give someone who closed the tab too early — it is also, in that case, the thing that triggers their enrollment.

Keep that instruction handy; it resolves most "I paid but I am not on the list" messages without any admin work.

Verify

  1. Complete a purchase and stay on the confirmation page.
  2. Confirm the enrollment message appears with the order confirmation.
  3. Confirm the attendee exists on the event.
  4. Fill the event, buy again with another account and confirm the waiting-list message.
  5. Buy again with an account already registered and confirm the already-signed-up message.
  6. Confirm the page still renders correctly on a phone.
