Build a complete WooCommerce storefront
This recipe orders the work for a POM-powered store from commercial setup through product discovery, purchase, and customer account use. WooCommerce owns products, orders, tax, shipping, payments, stock, and emails; POM owns storefront presentation and optional theme features.
Prepare the store
Configure WooCommerce's store address, currency, tax, shipping, payments, accounts, privacy, email, and assigned pages. Use gateway test mode and place one basic order before styling.
Create a simple product, variable product, sale product, out-of-stock product, and products with realistic images, categories, attributes, and descriptions.
Configure the catalog
- Go to Settings → POM Theme → E-Commerce → Storefront → WooCommerce storefront.
- Configure catalog contents, sorting, product density, image dimensions, and cropping.
- Configure Storefront → Product archives.
- Choose the archive layout, sidebar, pagination, result wrapper, and custom feed template where used.
- Prepare clean categories and global product attributes.
- Add Advanced filters settings only after the product data is consistent.
Expected result: visitors can compare products and reach the correct simple or variable product action.
Configure product pages
Open Product single → Product layout and review gallery arrangement, purchase area, tabs, related products, upsells, sharing, and the fixed add-to-cart bar.
Add request information, in-stock waitlist, wishlists, or gift vouchers only when the store has a clear operational process for the resulting enquiries, notifications, lists, or redemption.
Complete the purchase journey
- Configure Cart and checkout → Dropdown and side cart.
- Review the Cart and Checkout layouts enabled on the site.
- Configure Checkout behavior and supported field requirements.
- Configure My Account layout and endpoints.
- Place guest and returning-customer orders.
- Test coupons, shipping changes, validation, payment failure, success, email, and order details.
Protect dynamic state
Do not full-page cache Cart, Checkout, My Account, or customer-specific fragments. Test two independent browser sessions with different carts and accounts after every cache change.
Launch verification
Run the journey on phone, tablet, and desktop while signed out and signed in. Confirm prices, stock, variation state, notices, totals, legal text, payment, emails, and My Account all agree.
