Site width and containers
POM Theme has no single “site width” control that replaces every other layout decision. Width is resolved at several levels: the whole site can be boxed, individual frame areas can use full-width content, templates can choose contained or full-width variants, and Page Builder rows can control their own inner content.
Choose the outermost behavior
Open Settings → POM Theme → Design system → General styles and review Boxed layout. Enabling it places the whole site inside a container; leaving it disabled allows the site frame to use the viewport normally.
Use this setting only when the entire design calls for a boxed presentation. It is broader than a contained article or a single full-width builder row.
Decide width at the correct layer
| Requirement | Setting to use |
|---|---|
| Put the complete site inside an outer container | Design system → General styles → Boxed layout |
| Let the desktop header content span the available width | Site layout → Header → Header general settings. → Full-width header |
| Let one footer row span the available width | Site layout → Footer → Footer general settings. → Make the content in row N full-width? |
| Remove sidebars but keep archive or single content contained | Choose the supported contained-width option in that content section |
| Remove sidebars and use the broadest template width | Choose the supported full-width or without-container option |
| Extend a page section while keeping its content aligned | Configure that Page Builder row |
The exact layout labels vary by content type. For example, post archives offer None (Full width) and None (Contained width), while single posts distinguish Without container, Container, and Narrow container in their sidebar layout.
Keep alignment deliberate
A wide header, contained article, and full-width footer can be a valid combination, but their inner edges should still align intentionally. Compare the logo, page title, article text, sidebar, and footer widgets at the same viewport width.
If one area appears unexpectedly narrow, identify which layer owns it before changing padding:
- Check Boxed layout.
- Check the relevant header or footer full-width control.
- Check the archive or single-content layout.
- Check the Page Builder row and column settings.
- Only then adjust local spacing.
Responsive check
Do not assume that a desktop column arrangement will remain appropriate on mobile. Footer rows have a separate All columns width for footer row N on mobile setting, and mobile navigation has its own panel settings. Template sidebars should also be checked at narrow widths.
The expected result is a deliberate width hierarchy: viewport or boxed site, frame container, template container, then builder content. Use the responsive layout checklist to verify the complete hierarchy.
