Choose representative preview content
The HTML template settings provide an editor, not a separate preview-context selector. Save and assign the template, then inspect it on the public URL that supplies the required context.
Preview an archive template
Use the actual custom post type or product archive where the template is assigned.
For taxonomy-aware markup, check:
- A top-level term.
- A child term.
- A term with description and media.
- A term without optional description or media.
- An archive with no matching results.
An ordinary page does not provide the queried-term values required by archive tags.
Preview a feed template
You can use:
- An archive whose Custom result template selects the template.
- An author page or search result with that assignment.
- A Listings (Feed) element that explicitly selects the template.
Choose records that exercise each card state: featured image present and absent, short and long title, populated and empty custom fields, and product-specific data where applicable.
Preview a single template
Assign the template to posts under Templates → Blog → Post single, or to a POM custom post type through Content model → Post Types → Single layout. Then open a real item.
Use at least two items:
- A complete item with all expected content.
- A sparse item with optional fields missing.
If the design contains navigation, also check the first, middle and last item in the sequence.
A practical review sequence
- Save the template.
- Confirm its assignment.
- Open the representative public URL in a new tab.
- Verify desktop and narrow viewport layouts.
- Change one known source value and confirm the template reflects it.
- Repeat with empty and unusually long data.
- Check a translated version where the site is multilingual.
