How commissions are calculated
What a referred sale earns, and where the numbers on each commission come from.
The fields on a commission
Each entry in the commission list shows the calculation:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Base (ex VAT) | The amount the commission is calculated on, excluding VAT |
| Rate | The rate applied, and its type |
| Amount to collect (ex VAT) | What you earn |
| Concept | What was sold |
| SKU | The product code |
| Order / Subscription | The purchase behind it |
| Date | The commission date, which starts the payment waiting period |
Reading base, rate and amount together tells you exactly how a figure was reached.
Rates come from your agreement
The rate applied to a sale depends on the product sold and on the terms of your partner agreement. Standard partner terms use percentage tiers; specific agreements can differ.
Two consequences:
- This documentation cannot tell you your rate. Your agreement does, and each commission shows the rate that was actually applied.
- Different products can pay differently, so two sales of the same value can produce different commissions.
Everything is ex VAT
The base and the amount both exclude VAT. Your commission is calculated on the net value shown. Follow your partner agreement and your tax adviser's guidance when invoicing Pomatio; the dashboard does not determine your tax treatment.
One-off sales and subscriptions
Some products generate a single commission at purchase. Others, where the agreement provides for it, generate a commission on renewals as well, and each renewal creates its own commission record with its own date.
Where recurring commissions apply, an agreement can cap how many are generated. When the cap is reached, no further commissions are created for that subscription and the existing ones are unaffected.
When a sale creates no commission
- The order was not attributed to you. See Your referral link.
- The product is not one your agreement pays on.
- The purchase was made under agreement terms that do not generate a payable commission for that product or event.
When a commission disappears or turns negative in effect
A commission can be cancelled or reverted when the sale behind it does not stand — a failed payment, a cancelled order, a refund.
That is not an error. A commission exists because Pomatio was paid; if Pomatio was not paid, or was repaid, the commission does not survive.
Currency
Commissions carry their currency, and amounts are shown in it.
Checking a figure
If an amount looks wrong:
- Read the base — is it the net value you expected?
- Read the rate — is it the rate your agreement states for that product?
- Check the SKU — was the customer sold what you think they were sold?
If base and rate are right, the amount follows. If the base is wrong, the order is where to look. If the rate is wrong, that is a conversation with Pomatio about your agreement, and the commission ID is what identifies it.
