Activate a product on your site
Turning a license key into a working, updating product.
What you need
- The license key, from your account.
- The product installed and activated on the site.
- A site that can reach the internet from the server.
The steps
- Install the plugin or theme, and activate it in WordPress.
- Open the product's own settings and find its license field.
- Paste the key and save.
- Return to your account and open Licenses & Downloads.
- The site's domain now appears in the card's domain list.
Step 5 is the confirmation. Until the domain is listed, the activation did not complete, whatever the site shows.
What activation records
The domain, and whether it is a production site. Nothing about your content, your users or your traffic.
The domain allowance
Your card shows Domains as a count against the plan allowance. Each activated site takes one slot.
When the allowance is full, the next activation is refused. Free a slot by removing a domain you no longer use, or buy a plan with a larger allowance.
Staging and development sites
They consume slots too. Local and development environments are accepted only when the plan allows them, and a non-production label does not remove the domain from the allowance.
Two practical consequences:
- Count your staging sites before you run out of slots at an inconvenient moment.
- Remove them when the project ends, or they hold the allowance forever.
Moving a site to a new domain
A domain change is a new activation, not a rename. The old domain stays on the license until you remove it.
The routine is:
- Activate on the new domain.
- Confirm it appears in the list.
- Remove the old domain.
Do it in that order, so you are never without a working activation.
Multisite
Activate the product the way the product's own documentation describes for multisite. The domain recorded is the one the product reports.
When activation is refused
The most common reasons, in order:
- The key was mistyped. Reveal and copy it again rather than retyping.
- The license is not active. Check the status badge; a lapsed subscription blocks activation.
- The domain allowance is full.
- The site cannot reach Pomatio. A firewall, an offline server or a security plugin blocking outbound requests will all look like a rejected key.
After activation
Updates arrive through Dashboard → Updates on the site. Nothing further is needed — the site re-validates on its own.
