Course settings
The Course section of Settings → POM LMS, which controls every course page on the site.
Two groups
| Group | Controls |
|---|---|
| Course single | The page itself: what is visible, navigation, the progress bar, the loading overlay |
| Course subheader | The banner at the top of the page |
Course single
Visibility
| Field | Options |
|---|---|
| Display featured image | Yes / No |
| Display featured image position | Before post title / After post title |
| Display tags | Yes / No |
| Display author box | Yes / No |
| Display comments | Yes / No |
| Display rating | Yes / No |
| Display post date | Yes / No |
| Display post author link | Yes / No |
| Display post categories | Yes / No |
These are the blog conventions WordPress applies to any post. Most do not belong on a course: a publication date ages your catalogue, categories borrowed from the blog confuse, and a rating widget invites public criticism of a paid product before you have decided you want it.
Turn on what serves the course and leave the rest off.
Display comments is the one to think about. Comments on a course page give students a place to ask questions, which is valuable — and a place for complaints, which is public. If you enable them, moderate them.
Posts navigation
| Field | Effect |
|---|---|
| Display posts nav | Previous/next links between courses |
| Select prev/next in same category | Restricts them to the same category |
| Posts nav icon | The icon shown between them |
| Posts nav icon link | Where the icon leads |
On a course page these move between courses. Useful for an ordered series, distracting for an unrelated catalogue.
Comments and progress
| Field | Effect |
|---|---|
| Comment button style | Uses one of the theme's button styles |
| Display progress bar | Adds the progress bar to the page layout |
| Progress bar position | Top or Bottom |
| Progress bar color | From the theme palette |
The outline in the sidebar always shows progress, so this bar is additional emphasis rather than the only indicator.
Course overlay
| Field | Effect |
|---|---|
| Overlay background color | Covers the page while a lesson loads |
| Overlay spinner | The loading image |
Lessons load without a full page reload. Match the overlay color to your page background and the transition disappears; leave it at a contrasting default and every lesson opens with a flash.
Course subheader
Starts with Override default subheader settings?. Off, courses use the theme's global subheader. On, the rest of the group applies:
Enable subheader for this page?, Display title, Title color, Subheader size, Default or custom background, Subheader background image, the overlay fields and the parallax fields, plus Show author avatar, Show author name and Link author avatar and name.
Covered in detail in Course subheader and Background, overlay and parallax.
What is not here
Access, messages, sections and lessons are per course, in the course editor — not on this screen. See The course editor reference.
Verify
- Configure both groups and save.
- Open a course in a private window.
- Confirm only the elements you enabled appear.
- Open a lesson from the outline and watch the overlay.
- Confirm the title is not duplicated between the banner and the page.
