Install and activate POM LMS

Installation is ordinary. The verification afterwards is what matters, because a course platform that looks installed and gates nothing is worse than one that is obviously missing.

Before you start

  1. Confirm the POM theme is active.
  2. Have the production ZIP from your POM account.
  3. Have the license key ready, from My Account → Licenses & Downloads.
  4. Decide the course and lesson URL slugs, and whether lessons will live under their course. See Course URL structure.

Install the plugin

On a single-site installation:

  1. Open Plugins → Add Plugin.
  2. Select Upload Plugin.
  3. Upload the POM LMS ZIP and install it.
  4. Select Activate Plugin.

On multisite:

  1. Open Network Admin → Plugins → Add Plugin.
  2. Upload and install the ZIP.
  3. Select Network Activate, or activate it on the main site and on each site that runs courses.

Use the official release ZIP. It contains the bundled runtime dependencies; a partial copy produces a settings screen that cannot render.

Verify the installation

Four checks, in order:

  1. Courses appears in the sidebar, with Lessons beneath it.
  2. Settings → POM LMS opens, with the Course, Lesson, Account and License sections.
  3. A test course saves and opens at its own URL.
  4. No dependency error is shown on the settings screen.

If Courses is missing, or a course page renders without the course layout, check the active theme before anything else.

Activate the license

Open Settings → POM LMS → License, paste the key from your POM account, and save and validate it.

On a multisite subsite, the section also states the network requirement: POM LMS must be network-active or active on the main site for updates to be detected.

Full detail: Activate your POM LMS license.

Set the URL structure now

Course and lesson slugs are set with the theme's content-type slug options, alongside a switch that nests lesson URLs under their course.

Decide and save them before publishing courses. Changing them later changes every course and lesson address, and breaks any link already shared with students.

After changing anything here, re-save the permalink settings.

Choose the completion mode

Open Settings → POM LMS → Account → My account settings and decide Lessons manual check:

  • Off — a lesson is marked complete when the student opens it.
  • On — students tick lessons off themselves from the course outline.

This changes what the progress percentage means, so decide it before students start.

Prepare the permission rules

If courses will be gated by role, purchase or subscription, the rules are defined in the theme's own options and then selected on each course.

Create the rules you need now, so that the rule selector on a course is not empty when you get there.

What activation does not do

  • It does not create any courses or lessons.
  • It does not create a course listing page — there is no built-in course archive.
  • It does not add anything to the site menu; courses and lessons are excluded from menu selection by design.
  • It does not send emails, then or ever.

Installation result

A complete installation has:

  • POM LMS active on a site running the POM theme;
  • Settings → POM LMS reachable with all four sections;
  • a valid license for this domain;
  • course and lesson slugs decided and saved;
  • permalinks re-saved;
  • the completion mode chosen;
  • the permission rules you need already defined.

Next, tour the interface or go straight to Create your first course.
