How access is decided

In this order:

  1. Login requirement — if enabled and the visitor is signed out, blocked.
  2. The lesson's own permission rule, when evaluating a lesson.
  3. The course's Global permission rule.
  4. The paid-course setting, only when no rule applies.
  5. Otherwise, open.

Preview lessons bypass this, subject to Preview lessons also require login.

A permission rule therefore replaces the paid-course check rather than adding to it.
