Add sorting and pagination

Sorting changes order; pagination changes which slice of that ordered result set is visible. Configure both through Faceted Search controls, not the ordinary listing pagination.

Add sorting

  1. Add Faceted Search Sort near the result heading.
  2. Enter an optional Label.
  3. In Options, enter comma-separated value:Label pairs.
  4. Set Default to one of the listed values.

Built-in values include:

Value Default label
default Default
date_desc / date_asc Newest / Oldest
title_asc / title_desc Title A-Z / Title Z-A
price_asc / price_desc Price low-high / Price high-low
rating_desc Top rated
distance_asc Distance

Price and rating ordering are meaningful for compatible WooCommerce results. Distance ordering requires an active location selection.

With POM Tweaks Country pricing zones, price_asc and price_desc order WooCommerce products by the current regional price projection instead of the global _price field. Ascending order uses each product's lowest purchasable regional price; descending order uses its highest. Products unavailable in the resolved zone are excluded from that regional price order.

Custom meta sorts must first be declared for the context under Managed meta sorting. Each entry needs an ID, meta key, type (CHAR, NUMERIC, or DATE), and label. Use the declared ID in the sort control.

Choose a pager

Add one Faceted Search Pager and select:

  • Numbers for direct page access;
  • Load more to append the next page;
  • Next only for a simple forward action;
  • Next + Previous for sequential movement;
  • Infinite to append automatically near the end.

The pager exposes labels and button styling only where they apply.

Add a page-size selector

Use Faceted Search Per Page when visitors genuinely need it. In Legacy, enter comma-separated numeric Options, such as 12,24,48, and set a listed Default. In Gutenberg, edit ordered Size fields and Default page size under Results per page. Both accept at most 50 sizes from 1 to 200.

Load more and Infinite use the context’s fixed size and hide Per Page and replacement-page navigation. Use Numbers or Next navigation when offering a size selector.

See native Pager and Per Page and native Sort for their toolbar, sidebar and passive-preview controls.

Keep the largest choice reasonable for the complexity of each card. A very large page can make every filter refresh heavier.

If an old URL points beyond the last available page, that page contains no cards, but the result total and available page count remain accurate. Use the pager or Reset to return to an available page.

Verify stable ordering

Use Faceted Search Reset to restore filters and optionally the first matching Sort and Per Page defaults. Its extra-control option is independent of the selected facet scope; manual searches retain the context's submit-on-reset policy.

Test page one and a later page for each public sort. Change a filter while on a later page and confirm the refreshed state is coherent. Copy a URL with non-default sorting or page size and confirm those controls restore correctly. If country pricing is active, repeat the low-to-high and high-to-low checks from two zones whose product order differs.

For URL parameter behavior, see Use shareable filtered URLs.
