Build and order video playlists
Playlists create a reusable ordered sequence of hosted videos. They do not move videos between folders, and the same video can belong to several playlists.
Before you begin
- Link an active Pomatio Video Hosting subscription to the site.
- Upload the videos under Media → Videos → Library.
- Wait until the videos you want to add display Ready.
Create a playlist
- Open Media → Videos.
- Select the Playlists tab.
- Choose Create playlist.
- Enter a title. New playlists start as drafts.
The editor opens after creation.
Build the sequence
The editor has two panels:
- Video library contains ready videos that are not yet in the sequence.
- Playlist sequence contains the ordered playlist items.
Search the library or filter it by folder, then choose Add beside each video. To change the sequence, drag an item to a new position or use its up and down buttons. The buttons provide the same ordering control without requiring a pointer. Choose a video title in the sequence to load its private playable preview without exposing a permanent delivery URL.
To remove an item, choose Remove. This affects only the playlist; the hosted video stays in the library and in any other playlists.
Save and publish
- Review the playlist title and optional description.
- Choose Draft, Published, or Private under Status.
- Select Save playlist.
Sequence changes are explicit: navigating away before saving does not publish the new order.
The playlist UUID remains the same when you edit its title or order.
Add the playlist to a page
The editor displays a read-only Playlist shortcode field. Copy it and paste it into a Shortcode block, a text area that processes WordPress shortcodes, or a POM template:
[pom_video_playlist id="00000000-0000-4000-8000-000000000000"]
Keep the UUID generated for your playlist; the example above is only a format example. Published playlists are visible to visitors. Draft and private playlists are visible only to users who can read them.
The player lists each available video with its title, duration, and poster. Unavailable videos are skipped. Visitors can select any item with a keyboard, and private playback sessions renew while the page remains open.
Playlist pages remain compatible with full-page caching. Their HTML contains stable item and poster routes only; Pomatio Video Hosting checks current service access and creates short-lived poster and playback delivery signatures when a visitor requests them.
You can override the site defaults when needed:
[pom_video_playlist id="YOUR-PLAYLIST-UUID" layout="below" autoplay="no" loop="no" show_titles="yes" show_volume="yes" show_time="yes" show_progress="yes" show_subtitles="yes" show_quality="yes" show_speed="yes" show_pip="yes" show_fullscreen="yes"]
layoutacceptssidebarorbelow.autoplay="yes"advances to and plays the next item after a video ends.loop="yes"returns to the first item after the final item, when autoplay is enabled.show_titles="no"hides visible titles while retaining accessible button names.show_volume,show_time,show_progress,show_subtitles,show_quality,show_speed,show_pip, andshow_fullscreenacceptyesornoand control that optional player control for this playlist.
Set playlist layout and sequence defaults under Media → Videos → Settings → Playlist defaults. Set the shared player skin under Settings → POM Theme → Design system → Components → Video player. Autoplay always enables mute for browser compatibility.
Duplicate or delete a playlist
From the playlist list:
- Duplicate creates a draft copy with the same sequence.
- Delete removes the playlist but leaves every hosted video intact. It is available for playlists you created; deleting another user's playlist also requires permission to delete other users' posts.
Moving a video to Trash makes it unavailable in the published playlist but keeps its playlist position. Restoring the video within 30 days makes that item playable again without rebuilding the sequence. Permanent deletion removes the item from every playlist.
Playlist titles, descriptions, order, and video identifiers are included in a support-assisted Video Hosting export. They are removed with the rest of the site's Video Hosting library after the subscription's data-retrieval period.
Add several library videos at once
- Return to the Library tab.
- Select the videos using their checkboxes.
- Choose a playlist under the bulk controls.
- Select Add to playlist.
Bulk actions intentionally only move videos to a folder or add them to a playlist. Destructive bulk deletion is not available.
Verify the result
Reopen the playlist and confirm that:
- every intended video appears once;
- the sequence matches the order you saved;
- the title, description, and status are correct.
- the copied shortcode displays the playlist and all available items can be selected with a keyboard.
Troubleshooting
- A video is missing from the editor library: only ready videos are available. Clear the search and folder filter, or return to Library to check its status.
- The order returned to its previous state: reorder the sequence again and choose Save playlist before leaving.
- Publishing is refused: your WordPress role must be allowed to publish posts. Save the playlist as a draft or ask an administrator.
- The shortcode is empty for visitors: publish the playlist and confirm that it contains at least one ready video.
- A playlist item is missing: return to the library and confirm that the video is still ready and has an HLS output.
