Organize taxonomy terms
Use this workflow to improve category names, add terms or configure their POM images and positions. It works for categories, tags and manageable custom taxonomies.
- Identify the site. For network connections, select
blog_idand discover the destinationsite_idbefore reading or changing anything. - Call
wp_get_taxonomiesand select the exact taxonomy. Checkmanageablefor the acting user. - Inventory it with
wp_get_terms. Follownext_page; omitlanguagefor all translations or select an installed language. Keep the returned IDs, slugs, parents and revisions. - Prepare the smallest change that meets the request. Use
wp_rename_termsfor display names only,wp_reorder_termsfor positions, orwp_update_termfor explicit field edits. Never derive or replace slugs merely because display names have changed. - Preview the change with
dry_run: true. Include each term's currentexpected_revision. - For multiple batches, group the exact operations with
pom_site_prepare_write_job. Review the complete job in the client confirmation dialog or through its web review link. The assistant then executes each original batch with the sharedapproval_id; each batch still contains at most 50 terms. - Inspect every result and read the terms back. Confirm preserved slugs, hierarchy and language links when those were outside the task. Review the taxonomy editor and any public listing that uses its images or order.
For creation, use wp_create_term. For assignment to a post, wp_add_post_terms replaces that taxonomy's assignments unless append: true. Deletion uses wp_delete_term with the current revision and native WordPress reassignment behavior.
Thumbnail and background fields accept editable image IDs from the destination site's media library; zero clears an image. Lower order values appear first where POM term ordering is used. Changing a term position does not change a post's menu_order or a taxonomy archive's post-sort setting.
A batch is not a database transaction. If complete is false or the connection fails, inspect the affected terms before asking for another approval. Completed rows remain applied.

Category updates and search results
Repeating the saved name or other unchanged values does not trigger another term update. With POM Theme, changed categories refresh related Faceted Search results in small scheduled batches. The category itself is saved immediately. Let scheduled tasks finish before verifying indexed search results, especially for categories assigned to many posts.
